Giving Up on Branding Myself with a Clever Name

I was making great progress on my web site make-over, then a thought stopped me on my track.

Maybe I should have a different name for my blog.

I need a snazzy, snappy, catch-your-eyes-on-the-track name.

I’ve liked the term “Hard Rock Philosopher.”

I’m into heavy rock, but I am thoughtful, right?  Oh, but am I somehow dating myself with “hard rock?”  My music is not hard rock, I wouldn’t call it that.  Hard Rock was alive and kicking in 1980s.  Nobody is playing Hard Rock right now.

How about a “Guitar-Slinging Philosopher.”  There, that’s stronger, more macho.  I like the Western connotation there.

Oh, but how would it look with this really quiet, understated and beautiful web site look I’ve just spent 4 days developing?  Do I really have to have a more western motif?  Maybe I’ll need a new photo taken of me with cowboy hat and boots.  A guitar-slinging philosopher is someone I picture, holding a pipe and strumming a beat-up acoustic on a porch somewhere.  Rustic, hardened, crusty.  Ah — is that me?  Is it going to fit, if I choose to blog about jQuery development?

Ah — no.

I need to stop this.  I was doing so fine, and now my own creativity has derailed me off course.

My friend Bill Frase just recommended me this book: War of Art by Stephen Pressfield.

I need to learn how to turn this voice off.  There’s time to get creative and brainstorm what it could be — and there’s time to just sink your feet deep in the mud and crank out your message.

This web site is going to stay as AriKoinuma.com.  What I can’t brand myself with a clever name, hopefully my output will do.
