by Ari Koinuma on Aug.19, 2010, under Announcements
I’m off starting to build a new blog site for myself, so I will not be blogging on this site under my own name for the time being.

I’m off making web sites for myself
by Ari Koinuma on May.28, 2010, under Announcements
Just a quick update to say that I’ve been vacant here because I’m away building a few web sites for myself — including a redesign for this site! So I won’t be blogging for a few more weeks. I’ll be back after that, though!
My Plan for My Site
by Ari Koinuma on Mar.30, 2010, under Announcements
OK, I do realize that my site has become a pretty disjointed affair. I mean, my whole online presence is a bunch of disjointed affairs. Web sites here, blog here, all started, sustained for a few months, and then discarded when I move on to the next phase.
Well, this is the site that has my name on it, I really can’t run from here. It’s probably a good thing.
Anyway, I am going to organize my site in the coming months. It’s going to have a few sections, but two main ones:
- Pensive Rock: (Heavy) Music Heals — this is going to be my blog for everyone, in which I discuss how (heavy) music is good for the soul. I’ll continue posting meditations on songs that mean a lot to me. This will also be the area where I will produce and release my own music.
- Thoughtful Guitarist/Self-Sufficient Musician — this is going to be a section for fellow guitarists and musicians, where I post thoughts on all things guitar and music career.
In addition, I will also create a portfolio section of me as a web developer and consultant, as I continue to be in demand as one.
Until these structures are established, my blog is going to continue to be a jumbled mess of all things above. I hope you be patient with me, and kindly ignore posts that don’t pertain to your interest. Hopefully once I organize the site, you’ll easily be able to see and subscribe to just the areas of your interest.
I am hoping that this next phase is going to be the one that sticks. We’ll see.
Plans for My Online Presence
by Ari Koinuma on Oct.13, 2009, under Announcements, Ari's Diary, Our Best Version
This year was a time of trying different things and really letting my life vision change and evolve. I started out with an elaborate business plan about an online business, which then got reduced to simple, off-line music freelancing activities, and now I’m back online, but working as a telecommuting web developer out of my studio/office.
The last couple of months I didn’t update my web sites much because I just needed the dust to settle. And although I’ll never say never, it does seem to be settling. For the next phase, I’m planning to broadcast some of my songs via quick web cam recordings through this web site, AriKoinuma.com — which will turn into more of my Artist site. I’m going to move all the service-oriented stuff — like producing and film scoring — to another web site.
I’ve been battling cold myself and my family’s been sick on and off for the last 2 weeks, so I haven’t been able to sing much or work on writing new songs. I’m still settling into the telecommuting life, too. So it’s going to be a while yet before I do what I said above. But they will come.
The Plan for My Site
by Ari Koinuma on Jul.17, 2009, under Announcements, Ari's Diary
Yesterday I finished setting up a web site for a local pianist Michelle Glaser. She and I met at the Meetup.com meeting I host.
A lot of musicians seem to need help with web sites, and I try to help in anyway I can if I’m asked, so — I’m going to be adding my web-related services here in the near future.
There will be other additions and modifications to my site coming up in the next month or two as well. I’m going to highlight my guitar playing and my own music, as well as a more thorough profiling of who I am.
In a related news, in late August Happy Songs of Death, the Celtic folk album I produced for Marc Gunn, will be released. And my work on America’s Next Felon should wrap up around the same time. And I will also be helping with the web site for Lost in Sunshine, the feature film I’m scheduled to score next year.
Boy, I am busy — but it’s good to be in demand.
My Intention
by Ari Koinuma on Sep.22, 2008, under Announcements, Entrepreneurship
So, here I am. My name is Ari Koinuma. Welcome to my world.
This is what I am here to do:
- To realize my potential.
- To help others do the same.
To accomplish #1, I had to discover who I am. And from who I am, I had to design a vision that encompassed and incorporated as much of what I am as possible.
And I have formed that vision. Here it is:
—
I am building an interdisciplinary content-production and mentoring enterprise.
I have two types of content to offer: music and writing.
For the first three years of my operation, I will write, record and release 40 songs a year.
The songs will range from metal and progressive rock to gentle acoustic folk to children’s music. The consistency, originality, diversity, and prolific pacing of my music-making is what makes me noteworthy and valuable as a musician.
Similarly, I will write 200 posts per year on a range of subjects spanning from songwriting to promotion to entrepreneurship to self improvement. By covering this range of subjects, I can assist readers at all stages of development: personal->artistic->entrepreneurial.
I will also offer mentoring or create user-self-mentoring communities on a similar range of subjects as my blogs.
As the business grows, I will build a team of content creators and mentors, so I can focus on creating the content only I can produce, and expand our operations into live concerts and mentoring programs.
—
How and when am I going to start this venture?
I don’t know, but soon.
The only remaining key to the puzzle is how to create a situation where I can devote my full effort into this without jeopardizing my responsibility to provide for my family. The full-time commitment is essential, as the prolific pace of production is a key ingredient in my positioning. If I released one 12-song album a year and wrote 50 blog posts, I cannot stand out.
Even though I don’t know how I will start doing this, I do remain optimistic, as I can think of several scenarios of how to make this happen.
So — enablers, positive thinkers, encouragers, shower me with your affirmations. I’m going to need a lot of help in pursuing these big dreams. Naysayers, well-intentioned realists, and devil’s advocates, stay out of my way. Whatever lessons I need to learn, I will learn on my own, without your assistance.
