Lucy was the nick name we had for a red ’93 Honda Civic that got into a car accident (not our fault) and was deemed totaled by insurance. It was an old car, but having to buy a new car this way was an unpleasant shock.
But, the song itself has little to do with our car. If anything, I think this song is about my impulse to give up music.
I am very proud of the climactic ending, perhaps the finest moment of the entire album. It’s just so “me” — it’s heavy strumming and yet melodic.
Aries9: Lucy Struck Out
I’ve come this far
While crying for mercy
The frames are bent
I cannot run straight
That crash may be my lastI held on my fear
While fighting for the many
Many trapped hearts
On the bitter, cold street
Who never went on the must-save listSee me fly
For the last time, for the last time
To your sideI covered your scars
I covered my unholiness
But they never healed or were made complete
Never were saved from this messSee me fly
For the last time
For the last time by your side
