This is an exceptional song. By that, of course I mean among my catalog — I’m not necessarily saying it’s exceptionally good, though it may quite possibly be.
This song has two role models: Dave Matthews Band “Satellite” and Jason Harrod/Brian Funck “Hand Draws Flowers.” Both feature really intricate acoustic guitar parts, heavily relying on hammering and pulling with left hand, creating this bed of percussive sounds. I really haven’t explored this direction much, mainly due to the challenge of playing in that style and singing at the same time. It can be done, though it’s gonna take me a lot of practicing.
Nevertheless, I’ve always considered this song a rare gem because it just came together in a different way than most of my other songs. I’d love to spend some time writing more in this style, so that this song won’t remain so exceptional.
Aristotle's Hope: Ice Burns
Looking at my ice burns
Trying hard to feel the pain
A black dot on a thousand screens
So white and plain
And pale and so weightless
Am I?Locked away from the boundless sky
I long to feel
And I hurt to breathe
Once moreShallow and so dry
My stream’s slow death
Call me and let me hear me cry
Like a new-born’s breath
Like a beam through a cloud
Am I so afraid?Locked away from the boundless sky
I long to feel
And I hurt to be
With youLa….
