Life has a lot to keep up.
We try, try, try so hard to stay with it, do everything well, because we think everything must be done well. We know that we really don’t have to, but it’s hard to allow our mediocrity when we know it can be done well.
Except that we can’t last long with that kind of restricting attitude. We can’t be good at everything. We have our one or two things to shine — and the rest, we’re all mediocre.
And that’s OK. We are all right. You can forgive yourself.
That’s the kind of message I get from this song. It’s comforting, but perhaps in an odd, quirky way — that special slip-under-your-skin manner that only this band manages to.
We’re so disarming darling, everything we did believe
Is diving diving diving diving off the balcony
Tired and wired we ruin too easy
Sleep in our clothes and wait for winter to leaveHold ourselves together with our arms around the stereo for hours
While it sings to itself or whatever it does
When it sings to itself of its long lost loves
I’m getting tired, I’m forgetting whyTired and wired we ruin too easy
Sleep in our clothes and wait for winter to leave
But I’ll be with you behind the couch when they come
On a different day just like this oneWe’ll stay inside til somebody finds us
do whatever the TV tells us
Stay inside our rosy-minded fuzz for daysSo worry not
All things are well
We’ll be alright
We have our looks and perfume
