My First Original Song of 2021 “Star Bound”

Friends, here’s my first original song of 2021. I hope you enjoy it!

This is a song I wrote in 2019 when I was in the midst of mid life crisis and major life transitions. Quite possibly the most overtly optimistic and uplifting song in my catalog. I felt good about this being the first release of 2021, in what I hope will be a year of many releases.

I’m thinking if Craig Minowa of Cloud Cult was fronting Pearl Jam, it may sound like this.

It’ll go up on Bandcamp soon, then on to streaming. Thanks for listening!

“Star Bound”

Can you see the end to the sky
When you’re busy crawling on the ground
Always looking one yard ahead
Can’t remember how to be star bound

Should be hard for us to forget
Of the times you felt invincible
Let’s risk it all, we agreed
Then you hid to stay invisible

Stuffing you in a box too small

You say you can never make
This distance
You say you won’t get far
You claim you can never fly
But how can you tell
When you got your wings tucked in a jar

Patience, something to be proud of
Valiance, something we are short of
License, something we need no more
Penance, how long do we pay for

Stuffing you in a box to
Turn you into a cog minute

Stuffing you in a box to
Turn you into a cog when
You don’t fit in a box this small

You say you can never make
This distance
Who are you to aim for a star
You claim you can never fly
But how can you tell
When you got your wings locked in a jar

Release all energy spent to stay this compact
And tear out the now-voided oath
Spread all length of your wings
And flex your muscles
You have the power to save us both
So save us
Save us
